Choosing the best size for you can be confusing!

We are providing a simple size chart for quick reference, but sizing is not an exact science, there are many variables that will affect fit.

Step #1: Let's clarify some myths and misconceptions. A. stocking size and shoe size are not the same. In American sizing, stocking size is your woman's shoe size plus 2 1/2. B. There are at least 5 different sizing methods, American Classic for both full fashioned and circular knit stockings, European 8 through 10 1/2, European 0 - 5, United Kingdom P, S, M, L, XL, American S, M, L, American A, B, C, D. It is important to know that American and European Sizes are not the same, even though they appear to be. Please consult the chart below or contact us for correct sizing. The chart below is only for American shoe sizes.

Step #2: Full Fashioned stockings are knit to fit. There is not too much stretch to these stockings so you need to buy according to both foot size and length. Accuracy is very important.

Step #3: Circular stockings are a continuous knitted material, they will first give to accommodate the leg width, and sacrifice length. In other words, a medium stocking on a full leg will not go up as high on the leg as it would on a slender leg.

Step #4: If your legs are very full or very slim, go up or down a length or a size to accommodate the different leg proportion.

Step #5: To make things even more complicated, there was little size standardization among vintage, and even modern hosiery companies. Different brands fit differently! Trial and error is often the only method of determining the best fit.
